Story: Last summer, two friends of mine and I were bored and we decided to go to Cuba Road. We were driving there using my friends gps on her phone and right when we got on the main road, her phone shut off. Strangest thing ever! I sure as hell was freaking out! So we pulled off into one of the neighborhoods on the main road…I’ll never forget the name: Chipendale’s (haha). We parked right by the Chipendale’s sign and it was just a normal summer’s evening; no wind, no rain, no clouds. Every time my friend would turn her phone on, the bushes by the sign would start vigorously moving. Of course I was the one sitting closest to them so I locked my car door and just stared at them hoping nothing creepy would jump out of them. It could’ve been coincidence, but I don’t know…

So we finally got my friends gps to work and we were like “oh we’re right there!” So we get back on the main road and are stopped at the light as we’re about to turn left. I thought it was the opportune time to call my other friend who couldn’t come (she wanted me to call her). Reception was great, everything was crystal clear…until we got on Cuba Road. As soon as we turned on the road, it sounded like a woman was screaming in the background. So I asked my friend (she was at a Sox game) if she was sitting by a screaming woman and she had said that they were already driving home from the game. Now I was really freaking out! My phone was going crazy with this ghostly woman screaming bloody murder, so I was like “I gotta go” and hung up.

As we’re driving down the road, we spot the cemetery and I’m just staring at it and I notice these white lights floating above the gravestones and I remember thinking it was weird that they would put a light on each individual gravestone. I remember I tried to show my friends, but we had already passed it. So we turned around on Rainbow road (didn’t see a house or anything) and went past the cemetery again…no white lights. Then we turned around on another side road and as we turned we all screamed. An empty, old (I would say maybe from the 60s or 70s) jet black van was parked right near the bushes towards the cemetery. Nobody was in the car…or in the cemetery. So we quickly sped up the road to turn around. About three minutes later we were coming back down that side road to turn onto Cuba Road and the van was gone. Again, it could’ve been coincidence, but no one was in the cemetery and the doors to it that were locked before were open when we came back on Cuba Road. It was almost like someone wanted us to go in there. So we drove around the cemetery and I closely looked at the gravestones, there were no individual lights (I looked it up when I got out and found out that I had seen the orbs). My friends thought I was crazy for seeing the orbs.

After we left, we got lost again and got on the side road with the horse barn and the pentagram on the stop sign. Scary shit. The pentagram was clear as day and there was a horse outside of the barn, and we could see this from pretty far down the street. As soon as we got close to the stop sign, the horse practically came charging at our car (thank God there was a fence blocking him) and the pentagram disappeared. Weirdest thing ever. -Liz Szalay

Response from Scott Markus:  First off – what??? Pentagram on a stop sign? I’ve never heard this tale. That alone make me want to visit that area when I’m back in Illinois. Right away I’m guessing that based on the shape of stop signs and their reflective surface that (and this is probably something of a stretch) that a little warping of the sign could create some strange reflections. Do you have a photo of this sign (with or without the pentagram)? Also, what sign is it? I’m definitely going to give it a visit in a couple of weeks.

To comment on your strange cell phone experience, allow me to direct you to a not very mainstream phrase: instrumental transcommunication (or ITC). Mark Macy might be the most renowned person to specialize in that field. His web site is http://www.worlditc.org. Popularly, you see people gathering EVPs on tape recorders, but this topic is wider, using devices like television sets, radios and even phones to communicate with the other side.

Reply from Liz: Sadly, I don’t have a picture, but the good news is I will most likely be going back this coming summer. We took my one friend when we were on winter break and nothing happened, so she really wants to see some freaky stuff.

This time I’ll bring my camera and take lots of pictures…especially of the pentagram and the demon horse if he decides to charge towards my friends mini van again. I think you’re right about the stop sign though because obviously they are reflective and we were probably still freaking out about the black van that we thought it magically disappeared. And if I hear any blood curdling screams in my cell, I’ll let you know.

I looked at the website and it’s very interesting. Would a voice recorder work? If so, I’ll be sure to bring one.

Also, I Google Map’d Cuba Road and looked at the satellite view. The black van was parked on Crown Road right at the edge of the cemetery. And I want to say the pentagram stop sign is on the corner of Hart Road and Cuba Road (if the big building on that corner is the horse stable, then it is correct).

Thanks for all the advice and I’ll let you know if anything weird happens on my next trip.

Reply from Scott Markus: Yes, a tape recorder would work.   You can view a little demo that I shot with the Indiana Ghost Trackers on this YouTube video:

Can’t wait to see any pictures you get!

Loads of questions about Rainbow Road

Comment: Yesterday we went to the location on Rainbow Road. After all the reading on your site I had to see it. We went there – me and my mom. I saw the road on the bend with the little no trespassing sign. It was Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. My mom said, “if anyone comes, I cough real loud.” “Okay mom,” I said. I got up onto a pile of dirt on the right of the flag pole and climbed up a little. Its a huge pile of dirt right where the house was most likely. I looked as far as I could see and there was more land behind where the property WOULD HAVE BEEN. A lot of open land, I looked by the flag pole and saw an Old cigar tree (Catalpa), and looked up at the flag pole once more. And then started my way back because I had an uneasy feeling in my stomach. I jumped in and we left. As we left on Rainbow towards Rt 22, a Dodge Charger cop raced towards where we had just come from and lightly laid on his breaks as he passed. He then made a complete stop at the Bend where the Krilich gates were and sped off down Rainbow towards Cuba. Whheewwww that was close. Yeah there must definitely be some trip wire or it is insanely guarded by the neighbors at all times cuz that cop in the new Charger was meant for us. LOL.

PhotobucketI have been exploring sites like these for a while now. Although I’ve stepped into only a couple properties. Is the most fascinating feeling I have ever had. To see the badly peeled Forest Green and White paint peeling off the old porch and broken steps of an old farm house that was built literally in the 1890s. And see an old bomb shelter built on the grounds of a farmhouse or mansion meant for protection in WW2, the site of a skeleton key door lock on an abandoned house really makes me happy. I imagine the life and time of a place at least 60 yrs before Jewel and Walmart came around.

So here is my question: Where I can get a hell of a lot of info just for this house alone. The Rainbow Road House. I’d like to study and research it.

Have you received any pictures of the Rainbow Road Mansion. I have been dying just to see what it looked like. I don’t know. Could you help me see more. I love this. There just isn’t enough info on this place it’s like someone has covered it all up.

How much do you cover about “The House on Rainbow Road” and is there a photo of the old mansion around anywhere? ~ Sammy Marsala

PhotobucketResponse from Scott Markus: I love, love, LOVE your passion for days gone by! It’s a great thing about living up here in the Chicago suburbs – are are still some decaying relics of the past littering the landscape. Sadly, they are disappearing quickly. I like to think I cover the whole Cuba Road area better than any other book. We gave it a full chapter with a large segment of it set aside for the House on Rainbow Road. I’ve accumulated a lot of first-hand accounts from people that visited the house while it was still standing. On the downside, historical info (as you mentioned) is pretty hard to get a hold of. Some of the best historical info anywhere on the web is found on this page. I wouldn’t at all consider it a ‘cover-up,’ just simply ‘lost to time.’ I have been looking for ages of pictures or drawings of the House on Rainbow Road when it was still standing. Strangely, nothing has come up. The closest I’ve come is photography students who went there and took several pictures in the mid ’90s, but none of the pictures came out – a sign of a paranormal location. Beyond that, you can try local village halls. It’s my guess that you’ve accumulated some pretty nice pictures of your own of old buildings & houses. If so, let me know and I’ll post the link. Here’s a few pictures from my book of the place in ruins.

Strange temperature fluxuations at the Gate

Question: Hi, I’m Mike. I recently started the IPASS group (Illinois Paranormal Activity Search Society). I previously went to the Gate with some friends and videotaped the experience, and am now planning a return trip to find the foundations. With help from Google satellite imaging, I’ve found multiple possible sites and am planning on briefing my newly formed team soon for an “outing.” My first time, we (me and two friends from school) came upon a man, seemingly checking the structural integrity of the gate itself. My tape recorder was running for the entirety of the conversation that we had (even though I told him otherwise) and he attempted to turn us away. He failed and left us to our business. I still had the camcorder recording (I know b/c I checked) and took multiple shots of the gate. It’s definitely creepy.

We went down and entered the woods directly at the end of the entry path to the Des Plains River trail. Strangely, when I looked at the footage later on, it began after we had ducked under the fence; the other footage was gone somehow. Further into the woods, we found a burned down shed and a very old fire hydrant (20′s to 50′s or 60′s era). That was about it. My partners began getting very scared: it was getting dark and they had been paranoid the whole time, thinking the guy was following us. As we neared the fence (the one we had gone under initially), the temperature rose. Before we crossed the fence, the temperature had been somewhere around the 40s Farenheit. After we crossed the fence, it felt like it was in the 70′s or 80′s. I actually began sweating. This was in October, burr-ass cold October, only a couple weeks before Halloween. I was able to get dark footage of the actual Gate. That was it. If you have any specific history on the site, I would appreciate it.

Response from Scott Markus: Check around these pages to get the actual scoop on more background on The Gate. I did find your ‘hot spot’ recollection interesting. Generally cold spots are associated with hauntings while hot spots are linked to demons. Still considered fairly controversial, the possibilities of demonology being linked to The Gate is pretty exciting.  This is also some of the first reports of equipment malfunctions I’ve ever heard about at this site – something very common at haunted locations.

Strange Pictures from White Cemetery

PhotobucketStory: (click on images to view larger scale versions) My friend and I went to White Cemetary on Cuba Road. It was about 67 degress out and the wind was calm. I took some pics with my digital camera and found some surprising images. The first pic has and image of a girl looking from behind a headstone. The second pic looks to be a small boy kneeling. We took some other pics and found a lot of “orbs”. We went there twice and as we were leaving the second time we drove slowly past the cemetery with the radio off. Out of no where my head unit flipped open and the volume turned up three clicks. Neither of us had the remote because it was sitting in the cup holder of my car. The really weird thing was you need to press two buttons on the remote to open the head unit and turn up the volume. We tested to see if there was any way that the buttons could have been pressed. We couldn’t find anything. — Sean

PhotobucketResponse from Scott Markus: First off, I definately do see what you are looking at in the picture where you think you see a girl. The one with a child is a little sketchy in my opinion. In both instances, however, its impossible to say anything definitively. With the light being so dark and the locations of the possible apparitions being so far away from the camera, it could be anything. There could be further distant object catching just enough light to make a tiny imprint on the film. Plus, in cases like this where you are really looking for an anomaly, our eyes will start to find patterns in vague objects that create something organic to us – kind of like how it’s easy to find faces in wood grain.

The pictures that make the biggest impression on me are pictures that come with a story. If someone had a bad feeling in a particular place, felt a cold spot, heard a sound, etc. In addition, pictures that are taken in the daytime that have strange images or lights on them are definitely worth looking at deeper (though now you have to look out for glares from reflections and light sources). No matter what, there’s always going to be at least two ways to explain a picture. Good work and keep looking!

A ghost family at Rainbow Road?

Story: I am 18 years old, and I reside in Waukegan, Illinois. I used to live in Park Ridge until last March, when me and my family moved out here to Waukegan. I am e-mailing you because I would like to share with you my experiences at the house on Rainbow Road, and give you a little update about that “glass house” that someone talked about in a post on your website.

About a year or so ago, (I can’t give you an exact date because I don’t remember, but it was during my Junior year of high school around winter time) my uncle who lives in Barrington, told me about the house on Rainbow Road, and how it is haunted. So of course, curiosity killed my cat and I got some friends to come with me to check it out. What I saw there, absolutely freaked me out. What’s interesting is none of my friends saw it. I was the only one that experienced it.

As you know, you go over the gate and walk down a long road that eventually leads to a fork. It takes you to what I remember to be a silo to the left, and another road to the right. You keep walking down that road to the right and there is the mansion. We had seen boarded up windows that had “keep out, police order” spray-painted on there. The door had been chained, so we could not get in that way. On the side of the house, there was a window that had no glass or wooden board covering it. We entered through there, and what I saw next scared the crap out of me. There was a wooden table in the corner, and two chairs. There was nothing there for a second, and when I reached into my pocket to look at my phone to see what time it was, my phone had shut off, which I thought was odd considering I had it on the car charger the whole ride over there. When I looked up, I saw two figures sitting at the table, what appeared to be a mother and a daughter. They were looking at each ot her, not saying anything. They then turned and looked at me, and just stared at me. And it wasn’t a friendly stare. It was a cold, hateful stare, like a “get away from us” kind of stare. I turned to my friends, and told them that it was freaking me out. My buddy asked me what I was talking about, because they didn’t see anything. I was like, “DO YOU NOT SEE THESE TWO PEOPLE STARING AT US?!” That’s when it happened. I felt behind me, what felt like some kind of pressure. Then, a ghostly figure walked right through me, and it from what it seemed like, he was the father. He lit up the whole room with his glow, and once again, my friends didn’t experience any of this. He then turned around, looked at me, and in an evil, deranged voice, stared at me and said, “get out.” I grabbed my friends and told them to jump out the window and run. We hauled out of there, and as we ran, I heard screaming. A loud, painful screaming from the room that we were in. We hopped the gate and went back to my car. As I sped off and out of there I told my friends what I saw, and they said they didn’t see any of it. I reached into my pocket and took out my cell phone, which was no longer turned off, but back on with a full battery. I did not turn it back on. We went home, and I said I would never go back there again.

What happened that night has never happened to me before, and I’ve never had a supernatural experience since. But I will tell you this, what I saw that night was ghosts. They were ghosts that were very deranged and cruel. They looked just like human people, but very lightly transparent, and they were glowing. But by the way they stared, I could feel the hatred. The man who told me to get out said it in such a deep, deranged voice, it seemed as if it was satanic. And the painful, ear jarring screams I heard when I ran away, it was almost unreal.

Can you explain to me what happened? Have you ever heard any stories like this at Rainbow Road? What I experienced there does not match the story behind that house, about the mafia or whatever. I would just like to know what I experienced, and if I am in any danger for telling you this story. –Alex Gratys

P.S. ~ About that glass house, it is not haunted. My cousin’s (the son of my uncle that lives in the Braemar subdivision) girlfriend lives in that glass house. She says that she has never experienced anything in her house, but has seen things when walking home at night.

Response from Scott Markus: Alex, Can you tell me about the house you went into? Is it the image shown here:
From Alex: Yes that is absolutely the one.

Response from Scott Markus: I cannot explain exactly what you saw as, as you put it, it doesn’t go along with the house’s backstory (which, so far doesn’t actually include the Mafia).    The likely scenario is that your subconscious and fears bled into letting you see something that wasn’t truely there.

However, let’s go along for the ride and find a supernatural answer/theory!  The actual mansion, which was burned as part of a fireman training exercise in the mid-to-late ’90s contained a storm cellar.  (this is all true, by the way…this isn’t the theory part).  In that storm cellar of the abandoned mansion, people broke in to be able to practice some dark arts in the privacy of the cellar.  This is according to trustworthy eye witnesses who visited and can attest to finding strange markings on the floor, burned-out candles and animal remains, presumably the result of animal sacrifice.

Perhaps, much like the story behind the Stickney House, someone  opened a ‘door’ that they didn’t know how to close.  I bring this up mainly due to your use of the word Satanic to describe the feel you had when seeing these phantoms.  I would love to see if anyone else comes forth with similar stories, but as of now, this is the first I’ve heard of anything of the sort.

Searching for Meaning at Rainbow Road

Story/Question: Hey, my friend just sent me a link to your site and it had a whole bunch of stories regarding Rainbow and Cuba Rd.

First off about Cuba Rd, my friends and I have driven up and down that road and didn’t really feel anything one way or the other. One weird thing we encountered was an extemely small, extremely dense patch of fog, and once we drove through it my friend’s iPod shut off and made the radio cut to static.

We were under the impression that Cuba somehow connected to Rainbow Rd. so that’s why we were driving along it. We searched for Rainbow Rd. for another half hour or so, then I said “screw it let’s go someplace else” and not even 20 seconds after I said that, the intersection sign for Rainbow Rd. popped up. That was the first indication that something weird was happening.

We drove around on the road for a while since none of us had ever been there before, and we came across a bend in the road a couple of times. The second time we decided to see what was down there. We went just last week (Sunday June 19) and the gate was torn down. We went down the winding road and it stopped in a little roundabout so we decided to park the car and get out for a while. The area is nothing more than dirt and bulldozers right now, in fact believers in this area who knew we went down there were shocked and appalled that we had the courage to do something like that.

It was our main goal in this trip to test the orb theory and we did that by taking my friend’s digital camera and taking random photographs. I was really excited to take pictures of this land since it’s supposedly one of the most haunted areas in Illinois. Since I was with a couple of people I didn’t really feel all that scared. My friend Mike, however, was a different story. He drove there and nearly the second we stepped on the land he started to freak. He reported feelings of extreme sorrow and panic, as I was fumbling with the camera he eventually took it and took pictures and was then like “we have to go now, lets go please, come on we’re leaving please we have to go. this doesn’t feel right, something’s wrong. we have to leave.” We thought he was just being stupid but we left anyway. As soon as we were in the car driving up the road he felt completely fine.

Photobucket

This was one of the pictures we took in the torn up area at the end of the road, as you can see there are numerous visible orbs that seem to be coming towards the camera. This was also the area, keep in mind, where my friend was experiencing all these horrible feelings.

This past week, Mike’s life has been extremely tough. His friend from school was just in a tragic accident that left him for all intents and purposes brain dead. Also he’s been through trying incidents that have caused him panic, such as a major change in job scenery, two speeding tickets, and being forced to go against his morals. As we were at dinner friday night he got a shocked look on his face as he told me this revelation: Every single bad feeling and event he’s experienced in the past week is something that he felt on Rainbow Rd.

What we are both trying to figure out (now that we’re firm believers in ghosts, we didn’t really believe in paranormal activity before this night) is why this is happening. Did the feelings he get serve as a warning? Were they just simply warning him of troubles ahead? Or was it a punishment? He transported us to their land, we disturbed them by walking around and taking pictures. Therefore, they let him know what he was going to experience as a result.

We’ve contemplated driving back there and offering an apology to the spirits there, and weirdly enough as we were talking about that this past Friday Mike got a phone call like 2 seconds after the conversation was done and received promising news about his friend from school.

I don’t know what to make of all this. I’m wondering what you think. Thanks for your time.

Response from Scott Markus: I’m far too far removed from all of this to offer any specific insights.  Naturally, it’s a 90% certainty that these are coincidences.  However, that leaves 10%.  I have friends who have had quite similar experiences in having negative energies attached to them after visiting haunted sites.  However, from what I’ve seen, this attached spirits manifest themselves with typical poltergeist-like activity (moving objects, phantom voices, general disturbances).  However they have also manifested as psychic imprints which is something your friend experienced on the spot.  What it has not manifested as are negative events involving other people (such as the friend having the accident).  I am fairly certain that your friend just hit a streak of poor luck.  However, it certainly won’t to any harm to return to the site and offer an apology (it could give him the desired manufactured positive of a placebo effect).  The only KNOWN death to happen on the land was that of a young boy, so I highly doubt he would be the source of this malevolent force your friend is fearing.  However, he may have picked up on the emotion of the last moments of this boy’s life, who was crushed to death in a freak, tragic accident.

White Cemetery and Cell Phone Calls

Story/Question: I live in Lake Zurich, which is close to this location, but I’ve just learned about its hauntings recently, so I decided to drive by there a few times, just me by myself. I told no one else, but like 3 minutes after passing it I’d get a call on my cell phone from a private number, and I only know one person with caller id block, and he was on vacation at the time and turned his cell phone off, could the ghosts be trying to communicate with me? — Dan

Response from Scott Markus: Most likely not, though anything is possible. The best rule of thumb is to rule everything out as being coincidense or insignificant unless it simply too big to be ignored.  That said, equipment malfunctions are common occurrences at haunted sites.

A reader’s first visits to White Cemetery

Story: Around Halloween, a lot of people in my school were mentioning Cuba Road and the strange experiences they had there. Two of my friends and I are very interested in this type of stuff so we decided to check it out ourselves. We live less than 20 minutes away from Cuba Road, so we made a few trips.

The first time we went, we wanted to check out White Cemetery. We parked next to it on a dirt road. While we were getting out of the car, we heard strange noises that seemed to be coming from the direction of the cemetery. We walked toward the entrance and one of my friends started videotaping. After videotaping outside of the cemetery for a few minutes we decided to leave because I was getting really scared. When we were back in the car, my friend that was driving said he didn’t have his keys. My other friend and I thought he must be kidding just to scare us because he knew we were already petrified. After the three of us searched the car and couldn’t find the keys, the driver decided he would go out and see if he dropped them around the gates. As he was getting out of the car, a black SUV type car turned into the dirt road we were on and slowly drove past. We thought maybe it was a person who lived down the road. As my friend was looking for his keys near the cemetery (about five minutes after we first saw the black car) the car slowly drove past us once again. The two of us that were in the car were really scared so I took my cellphone out to call someone. As it was ringing, my phone started beeping and saying low battery. Then it turned off. I thought this was strange because my phone said full battery on the way there when I was calling my mom. When the driver got back to the car saying he couldn’t find the keys, we had to call someone to pick us up. We had just enough time to call someone and tell them to come get us before my friend’s phone died as well. While waiting for my friend’s dads to get us, we waited in the car. Out of nowhere, the same black car drove down the dirt road again. This is when we knew something wasn’t right because within 15 minutes this car had driven past three times. Before our ride came, the car drove past us another two times. I don’t know if it was just a neighbor concerned that we were there, or the black car that is known to drive on Cuba Road.

After this experience, we were determined to go back and find out more. That next weekend, we went back with more people this time to see if anything unusual would happen. We pulled into the same road and got out. We started videotaping and one of my friends went into the cemetery (even though we aren’t supposed to) and walked around. We stayed there for a little while and decided to leave because it seemed like nothing was happening.

In the car we decided to look for Rainbow Road and see what we could find there. One of my friends knew how to get there because the year before she went. We pulled into this hilly road and went up it. My friend said she knew we were going the right way because to the right of the road was a little pond she remembered seeing the year before. However, when we got to the spot where the asylum was supposed to be, there was no building there. All there was left was a silo and a dog barn next to it. We walked down a little path and found a swing set, see-saw, and slide. We didn’t find much more so we decided to leave. As we were driving back down the road, in the trees we found red balloons. There were at least five all together. We didn’t know what they were. So from this, I want to find out more information about this place. Can you help me? And did we experience anything the first time going to White Cemetery?

Response from Slim Pictures: I have to say the phone thing is noteworthy and I really do think something unique did happen at that moment, especially since two phones were impacted in the same way. More likely than not the car driving past was probably just a local checking up on you since it is a high traffic area for people to cause trouble. The house (not asylum) on Rainbow Road is now gone, but you were in the right place. The red balloons were just red balloons. Just because something may seem weird, doesn’t mean it is.

Strange Picture from Cuba Road

PhotobucketStory / Question: Can you tell me if these photos look like anything unsual. A few friends and I were up at Cuba road one night. It was in early Jan. 2005. We were parked directly on a side street which is directly in front of the cemetery across Cuba Rd. My friend has digital camera and she took a few pictures. In one picture in particular, there is a dense area of what seems to be fog all around us. Also in that same picture, you can kind of make out like a leg type object in the left hand corner. What is this? Another picture, after development, started turning colors it was the weirdest thing. However, I think the oddest thing about this experience at Cuba Rd. was when we first arrived, my friend’s digital camera just came off the charger and had a full battery. But after the first initial foggy picture, the camera died. Then all of a sudden, about 10 minutes later, it came back on. Then she tried to take another picture but nothing came up on the camera, she took about 5 pictures like this. Her camera was brand new too. Kind of odd. Have you ever heard of cameras not working after an initial photograph? I attached the pictures to see what you make of them. Thank you so much.  Kate

P.S. We also hear a lot of rumors about Rainbow Rd., what is the truth behind Rainbow Rd. Also last time we went to Rainbow Rd. the house or whatever it is was for sale and they were demolishing what was on that piece of property.

Response from Scott Markus: Kate, First off, thanks for your submission and you made a lot of very good observations. In your eMail it sounded like you meant to send several pictures, however I only got one. In the one I got, there’s definitely a lot of fog, there also appears to be two small orbs toward the right of the picture. There may be a few more smaller ones further off in the distance, but it’s hard to tell if they are orbs or reflections of distant objects. Some questions I would ask are: What were the weather conditions that night? Was it foggy? In addition to explaining the fog, it would also explain the orbs, which tends to be how larger droplets of moisture appear on a digital image. Was that van engine still running? Was anyone in the area smoking and was it cold enough that people could see their breath? Pictures like this can be tough because one that can be explained often looks exactly like one that can’t be explained.

Please do feel free to send the additional images and I’ll take a look at those as well.

In terms of having a paranormal experience, I believe you definitely did have one. The reason I say this is your story with the malfunctioning camera. Equipment failure of every kind is common at haunted locations, from cell phones to cars to everything in between. You mention the camera hadn’t had these problems before. Has it since?

As for the House on Rainbow Road, yes, it’s well known as a haunted location.  From what I’ve heard, I believe it.  However, I have not experienced anything there myself.  From what I’ve heard the entire property is being leveled and sold off as, I believe, five different lots for new homes.  Time will tell if the new homes become haunted as well. Thanks for writing & I look forward to hearing more.

Response from Katie: I just got your first email about the picture and camera. There was no fog whatsoever that night. The cars were turned off and it was not cold enough to see breath. Also no one in our group smokes. As for the camera, it works fine right now, there is nothing wrong with the camera, it is in perfect condition. My friend has taken many pictures since then and the camera worked on all of them. Also thank you for the email about Rainbow Rd. I do have another question for you. Have you ever heard of Flint Creek Road? It is located in Barrington too. Supposedly there was a car with 3 people and they were playing chicken and ran off road because the car that they were playing chicken with didn’t stop. Out of the 3 people, 2 died. The third person said that the other car didn’t stop and he blacked out. I was just wondering if you had heard anything about this. Also a group of us went down to Flint Creek Road and my one friends had his voice recorder on from his cell and he caught all of this weird almost talking noise on this recording. We were all quiet so we don’t know what it was. Do you have any idea what it could have been? Can cell voice recorders pick up supernatural noises? Thank you so very much for your input and help.

Response from Scott Markus:I do believe that any type of recorder can capture EVPs, some better than others though.  I would love to hear what was captured and post it on the site.  I have never heard any Flint Creek Road hauntings, but will post your tale on the site and maybe someone else will chime in!

Story:  Me and my friends are ghost hunters we have been there, we saw the five tree mark, then in the tree mark there was a red light in the middle of the five trees. incase you don’t remember anything about the five trees, it’s right by the swing set (behind the barn).

Does anyone know anything about the insane asylum on Lake Zurich Road?   We have been there and traveled all around the place, and found documents.  I just want to know the story behind it. I have not only been to the house of Rainbow Road, but also inside the asylum, and my friends took pictures and we got photos of actual ghost, then all our batteries died, and it got really cold and stuff. The road is off of Cuba Road, you go down and take a right on Lake Zurich Road.  At the asylum you can take pictures and when they come out you get pictures of ghosts, its freaky yet exciting. –Troy

Reader Reply: I have been to the house twice. The first time the “Guest House” next to the barn was still there and the second time it had been torn down. There was never an insane Asylum on the property. It did belong to a family who were killed there around Christmas. There is currently a care-taker, who takes care of the property so anything new there is from him. I would suggest not going on the property because the last time I was there, the care-taker was there. Since we left without doing anything he didn’t call the police, but my cousin’s friend had the police called on him and is no longer allowed to go on or near the property. Again, there is nothing left there to look at and they are currently trying to sell the property. But, yes the house was and the property is haunted. -Rachel
