Thought: I’m in Rockford, IL, and have been to Rainbow Road four times. We haven’t been past the gates yet (afraid of getting arrested, don’t know where to park the car, etc.).  I share a lot of thoughts with the person who posted on 7/20/04. I’ve done a lot of research (as much as I can do from Rockford), and I can’t find anything on there being an asylum. There was one in Elgin that closed in the 60′s, and of course Manteno, but I highly doubt there was ever one on this property. I’m guessing the only reason anything still stands on the property is because as long as it looks they way it does, it brings down the property value which equals lower property taxes.

I plan to go to the Barrington library when I get time to do more research on the property. I will write again if I find anything out. I’d love to hear any other info anyone else has!
